In collaboration between the Government of Japan and other music and telecommunication companies a new way will be presented soon designed to stop downloading illegal music to the mobile phones.
The Principe of this new system is that when a user try to download a track to a mobile phone a special server will scan the file to identify a special information in which he can determine if the copy is legal or not. In case that the copy is illegal a warning message will be sent to the operator and the user will continue to download the file but he will not be able to use it because the copy will be corrupted.
The reason that mobile operators have been involved in this project that a widespread of mobile users are downloading music files from forums and Internet. According to a statistics 400 million songs per year have been downloaded from illegal sources in Japan while 70 million tracks are downloaded in a legal ways.
In the coming few days the new system will be discussed at the council, organized by the Japanese recording industry associations and suppliers of telecommunications services. It is expected that the system will be fully operational by 2010 and will be the first of its kind in the world, according to sources.
