Personally, DoS or DDoS threats could be one of major threats that cloud service providers should take into account as basic security architecture. Two approaches are also available here. One is dedicated appliances(no matter rent from telco provider, or self purchase), the other is integrated/embeded module inside firewalls, routers, layer 7 switches or IPS. Gerenally, the former has better performance and richer features so that it's better for high end, mission critical data center and cloud providers.
